"'Twas Brillig"

by Grant Carrington

"'Twas Brillig" was published in THE CRESCENT (June 1959), the literary magazine of New Haven State Teachers College. I was on the literary staff. It was inspired by a comic book story based on "Jabberwocky."

Professor Robinson closed the book. "That's enough for tonight. It's well past your bedtime." His twin sons ran around his overstuffed easy chair, screaming for more.
"No. You know very well you're able to read for yourselves . . . and it's time for bed."
Cass, the more philosophical of the twins, shrugged his narrow shoulders and followed his mother up the stairs. Paul, the dreamer in the family, lagged behind, embarassed, as though he had something to say to his father.
