9/8/54-1/18/05

Stephen Gregg (age 51) died peacefully at 3:20 on January 18, 2005, as the natural result of the end stages of Pick's Disease, a rare form of dementia. The last music playing was Richard and Linda Thompson's album "Shoot Out the Lights." He drew his final breath during the last strains of the title song. --Cheree Gillespie

Stephen Gregg was the editor of Eternity Science Fiction magazine, which published several of my stories. When I lived in North Augusta SC I visited him frequently in Clemson, where he ran the Clemson Bookstore. He was a small man, full of energy and opinions, and we lots of great arguments.
The one I most remember was one that went on for about two hours as to whether "Sunfighter" or "Baron Von Toll Booth and the Chrome Nun" was the best Jefferson Airplane and friends album. Stephen finally, "We just see things completely differently" and I said, "We both agree these are the two best albums. We just don't agree on which one of two is the best. I don't see that as exactly mass disagreement."
